Step 2: Review the video clips below to familiarize yourself with the case Cyntoia’s case and experiences (Taking notes of key points that you can use throughout your presentation is a good practice)

Step 3. As a “Court Appointed Special Advocate” (CASA), you have been assigned the Cyntoia Browns case. You have represented her and advocated for her throughout her trail and are now partnering with Cyntoia, who has been released from prison,  and the Tennessee Juvenile Correctional facility to develop a 10-point prevention plant centered on preventing a repeat of her case. You can research and/or develop original strategies to include in your plan.

Step 4: You are preparing to present your 10-point plan to a group of your choice (consider your target population and who needs to hear your 10-point plan proposal)

• Be sure to discuss the group you are presenting to in your discussion (This can be a hypothetical group, i.e. ABC Parent Group, ELAC’s Social Justice Advocates Group)
• Discuss why you selected the group you are presenting to.
• What is the significance of presenting to the group you have selected?

Step 5: Research and include two additional sources related to Cyntoia Browns case to gather additional information. Be sue to cite the sources on your reference page.

Step 6: Begin developing your 10-Point Plan Presentation. Include the following: 

1. A short summary of the Cyntoia Brown case (in your own words)

2. Discuss why  her case would be  inspiration behind a 10-point prevention plan

• Include recent statistics to justify the significance for using her case
• how many other youth may be facing similar circumstances?

3. Develop a creative name for your 10-point prevention plan proposal and present it to your target audience

4. Each of your 10 points should stem from one term/concept/theory from 10 different chapters in the text. You should connect it back to facts  presented about Cyntoia Brown’s case. (see the example below from a former group project)

Example:

“Point 1  Mandatory Weekly Family Counseling Strategy.

This stems from the concept of Parens Patriae, discussed in chapter 1. The idea behind parens patriae is that the state can act as the guardian of those who cannot care for themselves  

In an effort to provide care and safety to the entire family unit, the weekly family counseling will serve as an intervention and monitoring strategy that provides mental health, familial support, and community resource referrals for the family unit. We understand that the juveniles environment plays a significant role in their development, as demonstrated in Cyntoia Brown’s case.”

Step 5. Each of the points in your 10 step plan should include the following (as demonstrated in the example):

• Select one concept/theory/term from a 10 different chapters in the book
• Note which chapter the concept/theory/term derives from
• Discussion of why you decided to include it in the 10 point plan 
• Discussion of what aspect of Cyntoia’s story inspired the inclusion of that specific step (use the reading and videos for relative examples)

Submitting Your Assignment

• Your will submit a copy of your powerpoint slides and your video recorded presentation 
•  Submit a 10-15 slide presentation that Includes an Introduction, Analysis, Conclusion, and Reference page
  • Include at least 10 key terms through the entire presentation. This includes on term/concept/therory from 10- different chapters throughout your presentation 
• Develop a narrated  presentation using a Zoom recorded presentation or any other video-recording source that you can upload as an assignment (i.e., Youtube, iMovie)
  • Your verbal presentation should be 15-20 minutes in length
• I have provided a sample presentation in this week’s module. The assignment is meant to serve as a guide only. Be sure to prepare and execute an original assignment. (Do not use any of the concepts/terms/theories used in the sample assignment in your assignment. 
• Click “Reply” and upload your final presentation and powerpoint slides

• Bulleted lists can be used to organize short phrases or short sentences, if appropriate.
• There should be no paragraphs of text.
• The speaker carries the responsibility of explaining what is shown; the audience (me) should not be expected to read this explanation from your slides.
