Strategy Formulation and Evaluation
Overview In this section, you need to select ONE clinical area, such as medicine, surgery, pediatrics, physical therapy, etc. and then determine if based on all of the previous information collected and analyzed, it is in the best interest of the health service organization to expand, contract, or maintain the scope of the ONE clinical area identified. This section should be approximately ½ page in length.
Adaptive Strategy Based on your decision to expand, contract, or maintain the scope, you need to consider the single most appropriate adaptive strategy. These adaptive strategy alternatives are discussed in Chapter 6. Based on the ONE adaptive strategy selected, use a minimum of two (2) to a maximum of four (4) methods to evaluate the “fit” of the adaptive strategy selected. These methods of evaluation (TOWS, PLC, BCG, SPACE) are discussed in Chapter 7. For example, if you decided to expand the scope through product development and utilized the TOWS matrix to evaluate and ended up in quadrant 2, 3, or 4 then the selection of your adaptive strategy would be confirmed. This section should be one (1) to two (2) pages in length
Market-Entry Strategy Based on the adaptive strategy selected and confirmed by evaluation, you now need to identify the single most appropriate market-entry strategy to achieve the adaptive strategy chosen. These market entry strategy alternatives are discussed in Chapter 6. Once you have selected the market entry strategy, use the evaluation components of the textbook to evaluate the “fit” of the market entry strategy selected. For example, if you decided to expand the scope through the adaptive strategy of product development and decided to accomplish this through the Development strategy of Internal Development, then you determined that it was supported by the external conditions, internal resources, competencies and capabilities, and organizational goals, then the selection of your market entry strategy would be confirmed. This section should be one (1) to two (2) pages in length.
