The human resources (HR) director for the city has received complaints from EMS employees because the performance appraisal forms that the city uses are generic and do not accurately measure skills and abilities of EMS personnel. Since you are the manager of EMS operations, she has asked you to create a performance appraisal template and explain why the questions/metrics are important for team members in your department.
This is a two-part assignment. Part 1 of the assignment is your explanation of the appraisal techniques/components and their importance for accurately assessing EMS employees. Part 2 of the assignment is the performance appraisal template. Each part of the assignment should be one page in length. Be sure to address the following topics in your assignment:
  • Part 1: Draft a one-page letter to the HR director explaining why the performance appraisal components you chose are necessary. Explain the importance of a clinical evaluation tool for EMS professionals. Address the operational roles of EMS personnel and how they relate to the chosen components of your appraisal. Create a mock letterhead for your paper to include a fictional city name, department name, and name for the HR director.
  • Part 2: Select measurable performance appraisal questions/metrics for personnel with clinical and operational roles (e.g., use of education, benchmarks, peer review, compliance, and goal setting). Place these components in a performance appraisal template for the HR director. Place the fictional city name you created in Part 1 at the top of the template.
Your recommendation must be at least two pages in length and include at least two outside sources, one of which may be your textbook. Adhere to APA Style when creating citations and references for this assignment. APA formatting, however, is not necessary.
