Final Exam: Franklin and English Romantics
Choose TWO of the following as the basis for short essay answers. I’m much more concerned that you address the prompt fully than that you count the words. You should set your answers up as essays; that is, you should have a thesis that controls the answer, use specific details from the literature, and then employ a concluding statement. While I know that you will be working quickly, give yourself time to revise, edit, and proofread. I will be looking at your mechanics and grammar as part of the grade. A grading rubric is included with this assignment, and you should be able to see it before submitting your document.

1. Would you characterize Benjamin Franklin as a self-made man? Why or why not? Use examples to help illustrate your assertions.
2. We saw an example of a man whom many would define as a hero in Ulysses. Would it be possible to classfiy Franklin as a hero? Why or why ot? Again, use specific examples to illustrate.
3. The Romantic poets looked to nature as a great teacher, even as God. Choose one of the three poems assigned and illustrate how either Wordsworth or Coleridge depicts nature.
4. Looking at “Kubla Khan,” describe how Coleridge sees the imagination.
