How is sexism portrayed in different types of media?
Research Paper Assignment
2500-3000 Words plus a Works Cited Page!
3 Scholarly Sources 2 Credible Popular Sources (5 Total)
Assignment description:
Youll produce a minimum 2500-3000 word research paper on a topic of your choosing. Your paper must be a critical analysis of your chosen topic with summary and description kept to a bare minimum. Your job is to help create a deeper understanding of something most people engage with uncritically. You MAY NOT use the same topic as your argument essay!
The difference between this paper and your argument essay is that a research paper is more investigative and informative. Although you will still have an argument to make, it is not necessarily a hot button topic with only 2 sides. You must create multiple questions to ponder for the topic in order to develop a fully formed Thesis.
Your research should be supported with a minimum of 3 scholarly sources and 2 popular or primary sources. (5 total)
Topic Options Include:
- How is sexism portrayed in different types of media? CHOOSE ONE (music, film, video games, etc.)? Has the amount/type of sexism changed over the years?
- What is the correlation between the 2020 lockdown and the state of mental health in CHOOSE ONE DEMOGRAPHIC (Children, teens, young adults, adults, elderly)?
- What types of social commentary comes from the music industry and how does it affect change?
- You may choose your own topic, but it must be approved by me.
Remember that while these options involve one or two questions to consider, they are not fully developed research questions. For a proper research question you must look at your topic from all different angles and consider all of the implications and questions it might pose and then decide on your approach. This is often decided by doing research in the early stages!
