Research a community service (volunteer) opportunity in Oxford, in your hometown, or in another location that interests you. The following link can be used to explore Oxford opportunities: . The opportunity can be a current or past opportunity, or you can discuss another volunteer opportunity in Oxford or somewhere else that you already know about or that you learned from another source! Think about the organizations goals and objectives that appeal to you and your future as a pharmacist. Write about why you would like to participate in their local outreach and how your involvement could make a positive difference in the lives of others and your career pursuits. Provide evidence, support, and rationale to justify your response.
Guidelines:
The inquiry-based response should be up to one page in length, if it were a printed, double-spaced document, and should appear as a piece of scholarly writing (250 300 words).
Stronger responses will essentially be complete documents, which read from beginning to end to service a main idea. Your willingness to match your values with those of the community service organization will help drive the focus of your writing from start to finish.
Stronger reflective responses explain the intentions of the community service, outline the significance of its cause, and justify the role the author hopes to play in supporting its success. They have voice and convey a sense of personal connection to and ownership for the community service. They need not claim a sense of ownership of non-profit work as a whole.
Weaker reflective responses engage in glow (weak and general claims about the strengths of community service) or schmooze (weak and general claims about the pharmacy profession). The focus of the inquiry is your anticipated involvement in the community, not a right or wrong answer. The nature of this writing is to explore connections between pharmacy and community service, discover local opportunities available in Oxford, and formulate a plan for involvement in community service here at The University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy.
