Explaining the manifestation of police misconduct or the factors that facilitate such behavior maintains an active and rigorously pursued study in police studies, research that has spanned over a half-century, emerging in the 1950s. However, it was not until the work of Chevigny (1969) that researchers and practitioners started to truly understand the complexity of misconduct.
