Medication Comparisons

Although Social Workers do not prescribe medications to Clients, we often work with Clients taking medications that impact their mental health.  This week we will take a look at some medication options for Clients. 

Below are 5 cases. Please review each case and then write a reply to each client and outline: (1) an overview of the drug, (2) side effects, and (3) any other relevant information. Feel free to use Drugs.com or any other medical websites.  Write your response as if you were having a conversation with the Client (i.e., use lay language so the Client can easily understand). This can be submitted in a Word document or entered as text.  

Client #1: Drax

You have diagnosed Drax with Schizophrenia and his Primary Care Physician (PCP) has recommended two Antipsychotic medications: Risperidone and Arpiprazole. You explain to Drax that you are not a medical doctor and can not offer medical advice, however, you will do some research on each medication and provide him with an overview of the drugs, side effects and any other relevant information.   

Client #2: Gamora 

You have diagnosed Gamora with an unspecified mood disorder and her Primary Care Physician (PCP) has recommended two Mood Stabilizers medications: Oxcarbazepine and Carbamzepine. You explain to Gamora that you are not a medical doctor and can not offer medical advice, however, you will do some research on each medication and provide her with an overview of the drugs, side effects and any other relevant information. 

Client #3: Peter 

You have diagnosed Peter with ADHD and his Primary Care Physician (PCP) has recommended two Stimulant medications: Methylphenidate and Clonidine. You explain to Peter that you are not a medical doctor and can not offer medical advice, however, you do some research on each medication and provide him with an overview of the drugs, side effects and any other relevant information. 

Client #4: Groot

You have diagnosed Groot with Major Depressive Disorder and his Primary Care Physician (PCP) has recommended two Antidepressants medications: Fluoxetine and Duloxetine. You explain to Groot that you are not a medical doctor and can not offer medical advice, however, you will do some research on each medication and provide him with an overview of the drugs, side effects and any other relevant information. 

Client #5: Rocket 

You have diagnosed Rocket with Generalized Anxiety Disorder and his Primary Care Physician (PCP) has recommended two Anti-Anxiety medications: Clonazpam and Lorazepam. You explain to Rocket that you are not a medical doctor and can not offer medical advice, however, you do some research on each medication and provide him with an overview of the drugs, side effects and any other relevant information.
