Cover Letter

Here are the directions 

This reflection and revision assignment for this class has two parts:

1.   A cover letter that reflects on your evolution as a writer, in which you will explain how you have met the outcomes for the course.  You will use evidence from your work in this class to prove the claim that you should pass the class.

2.   A revised paper where you highlight or use track changes to show where the paper has been revised.  You will also explain the reasons for those changes using either the reviewing toolbar in Microsoft Word or highlighted parenthetical asides in the body of the paper.

Requirements for Cover Letter 

In your cover letter you will explain your writing and revision process for at least two papers in class. You will also discuss what sources you consulted to revise your paper (grammar/writing websites, peer feedback, instructor feedback, tutors, etc.) and you will discuss how you have met the competencies for this course through that revision process.

There are six outcomes for this class, and they are listed in the syllabus:

Course Outcomes:

1. Analyze communication through reading and writing skills. 

2. Employ writing processes such as planning, organizing, composing, and revising. 

3. Express a primary purpose and organize supporting points logically. 

4. Use and document research evidence appropriate for college-level writing. 

5. Employ academic writing styles appropriate for different genres and audiences. 

6. Identify and correct grammatical and mechanical errors in their writing 

Essential Skills: Communication, Critical Thinking, Information & Digital Literacy

In your cover letter, addressed to your teacher, you will explain how you have become competent in the listed outcomes above. You will give examples from your writing to support your claim that you are competent in these four areas, meaning you will employ the TEAR method for your body paragraphs.  Each body paragraph should have claim (I have met this competency) with evidence to support that claim (an example from my writing to prove this is shown here "include a quote/paraphrase of your writing").  Addressing the competencies in your cover letter will also count for a large percentage of that grade.

Requirements for revised paper:

You must substantially revise your first or second essay in this final reflection assignment.  In addition to revising a paper, you must also highlight changes in your drafts and discuss why you made those changes.  You can do this with Microsoft Word’s Reviewing toolbar or by using a different color font to discuss your changes with highlighted parenthetical asides in the body of the paper.
