Your final project is to develop an outreach plan for the community you selected (building on your work in module 4 and module 9). The final project includes both a paper and a presentation. The presentation will be delivered first (due at the end of module 11) so you can use peer feedback on your ideas to improve your final paper (due at the end of module 12). Although the paper and the presentation will include much of the same material, the target audience will be different.
Final Paper
Your final paper is a 12-15 page community profile and outreach plan. It should be an academic paper but presume that it may be read by other emergency managers, public officials, or engaged community members. Your paper should include the following components:
- an overview of your paper (no more than 1 page)
- a community profile (You may draw substantially on your work from module 4)
- a detailed exposition of the challenges in reaching out to this diverse community
- a developed outreach plan which includes details on how you would include the community and community-based organizations in planning for hazards and risks (You should draw on your work from module 9 but you should make revisions based on the feedback of your peers and instructors and based on your continued learning)
- an assessment of the current status of local planning that addresses, at a minimum, the following questions:
- Do local plans appear available for community access?
- To what extent do existing local plans address the needs of vulnerable, diverse communities?
- recommendations for both immediate and subsequent steps for local emergency managers
Throughout your paper, support your statements with evidence from the literature. As always, cite all sources in APA style, and be sure to include a reference list
