Case Analysis

Dominick is an 8-year-old boy, who moved around with his parents from the time he was 3 years old. He is an only child, but did have a sister. Dominick’s mother, Grace, has become very withdrawn and has little interaction with her one. According to school records Dominick has not been vaccinated.

Dominick spends most days hungry and thirsty while his parents enjoy a meal. When his parents have finished eating, his is able to have the scraps from the plates, which have been through away. When extreme thirst sets in , he often will drink the toilet waterd.

Grace, due to frequent moves, has made very few relationships with other individuals. She was extremely wealthy women, who became pregnant with her first child at the age of 20. She has no desire to have a child, but abortion was not a option. She continued her lifestyle of travel and partying with little regards to her unborn child. She married the father in order to heep p the appearance of a “perfect” life. The conception had been a one night stande, with Bill who she met on a work trip. Bill became very protective and caring for her and the child. Race throved on the attention.

After Shelly was born, Bill became very distant within the relationship. He would not help his daughter, and developed a gambling problem which ultimately resulted in bankruptcy.

Grace, feeling abandoned began to focus more on becoming desirable to Bill. This caused less attention on Shelly and Dominick. One day when Bill returned home from drinking, he decided they needed to move, because people were looking for him. Bill and Grace moved numerous times until Grace became pregnant again. Bill was very vocal and hostile toward Grace and the pregnancy.

Grace had little family, and Bill did not know his biological parents as he was place in foster care at the age of 2.

When Dominick was in school, he began to have many stomach aches and headaches. This continued daily. One day during recess, a teacher noticed Dominick going into the bathroom with an older male student. When he asked what was going on, Dominick replied, “Trying to make someone like me”.

The teacher made a call to DCFS according to her requirements of being a mandated reporter. A few weeks later, she noticied Dominick had come to school with scratch marks on his face and limping. Sshe was going to talk to Dominick the next day, but never returned to school.
