– Rationalization refers to choosing the most efficient means to acomplish tasks. Weber discussed social change in societies as the transformation of traditional practices to rational-legal practices. In the McDonaldization of Society, Ritzer describes how the process of fast, convenient, and standardized services has continued and spread to almost all areas of our lives. He bemoans the loss of some aspects of traditional society that allow for more quality experiences, creativity, and sentimental value.
The question is:
Are there areas of life that simply cannot, or should not be rationalized? What do you think about the McDonaldization of Society? In what ways do you see it as good and bad?

2- Streetwise
– Much of the classical sociological literature describes the process of societal evolution from simple agrarian traditional societies to complex mass urban centers. While change has opened new horizans and opportunities, urbanization has also met with many social problems: crime, crowding, poverty, e.g. In Streetwise, Anderson describes what happens when gentrification occurs and the affluent move into city slums. He is especially interested in how the well-to-do negotiate interactions on “the streets” when encountering the poor.
The question is:
