- Work: A Very Short Introduction Ch. 7-9 (pp. 86-118)
Some of you may not have heard of the CARS Model before. It is a method used to help shape academic research. This Powerpoint takes you step by step through the process of shaping your research to be both productive and engaging. Think of it this way–people running a race don’t typically get to pick their own path. By using the CARS Model, you are setting the route for your research. You note the starting point, the length, the pit stops, obstacles, and the finishing line.
Can you think of what you typically write for an academic paper that lays out all of the relevant overview of your topic? The introduction. The CARS model will help you create one of those hefty, academic introductions rather than the slight, brief introductions we usually write just to get it out of the way. With big, complicated ideas come heftier introductions to help set the stage for your reader.
