These are the items that I decided to look into and from what we learned in class these items are pretty good choices. We know that Vitamin C can boost the immune system, reduce skin discoloration, keeps skin hydrated, and is a form of protection from the sun. Calcium is good for the bones, it can also decrease risk of diabetes. Calcium also protects the gums and prevents teeth against disease. Potassium is one of the most important minerals in the body. It can reduce blood pressure, and water retention, protect against stroke and helps muscle contractions. Vitamin A protects your eyes, can lower the risk of cancer, supports immune system, and supports bone health. Iron can boost mental and cognitive performance, it can help regulate body temperature, and it helps cure anemia. What I found interesting was my coffee starbucks energy drink had more vitamins and minerals than some of my food selections. I will be more selective in my choices, I was only looking at the macronutrients when selecting foods but it’s very important to look for the micronutrients as well.
