Question 1. Apply Porter’s Five Forces analysis to the pharmaceutical market in Turkey. In your response, please specify whether each force is high, low, or medium. Please explain the rationale behind your answer. 

Note: When analyzing”customer power”, please identify the customer first, and then do the analysis. In this particular example, the customer could be both the government and end-user and your answer should clarify which one you are talking about and why you chose it as the customer.

Also, please beware of common mistakes that students make when applying Five Forces Model: 1. Porter’s model is for analysis of an industry not an individual player in the industry. In this case, your unit of analysis is “Pharmaceutical Industry in Turkey”.

2. Substitute means another product/service category that fulfills the same need, not another brand from the same product/service category. 

3. Suppliers are those who provide products and services (e.g. raw materials) needed to make your offering available. In other words, they are active in other industries and offer their products and services to the industry of question (in this case, the pharmaceutical industry in Turkey).

Question 2. Is expanding its business to Turkey a good opportunity for Maha Research Labs? Please describe the “pros and cons” of entering the Turkish pharmaceutical market.
