For this assignment, you are asked to write a research paper that requires three scholarly sources (secondary sources) and the text you have chosen (primary source), for a total of four sources. The paper will be in MLA format, and needs to be at least four full pages, but should not exceed six pages. Please note that if your Works Cited page does not match your in-text citations, that can be grounds for failing the paper! Please choose from one of the following topics for your research paper:
- Race: Looking at Frederick Douglass’s "What to the Slave Is the Fourth of July?" write a research paper examining slavery or race relations in the late 1800’s or early 1900’s. You should be answering the question: how would knowing the history of slavery help us understand Douglass’s speech better?
- History: Choose any of the essays we read this semester and write a research paper analyzing how the essay fits into its historical period. Did it make an impact in its time period? Or was it a product of its time period?
- Education: Looking at Ellen Laird’s "I’m Your Teacher, Not Your Internet-Service Provider," write a research paper examining how internet education has changed in the past two decades. Has it improved, or has it regressed? Why?
