Overview

The semester is almost over, and it is time to consider your successes, the progress you have made this semester, and the goals you have for yourself in future classes. Thinking about the progress you have made and celebrating your successes can help you discover what skills you want to take with you to future classes. Reflecting on the goals you still want to meet will help you recognize which skills you should still focus on improving.

You should spend approximately 1 hour on this assignment.

Instructions

1. Think: Review the feedback on your essays and your grades in both ENG 121 and CCR 094. Review your previous My Journal assignments.
2. Write: Write four paragraphs reflecting on your progress this semester:
• Paragraph 1: Consider the goals you had for yourself this semester. Did you meet them? Why, or why not? What successes did you have that you want to celebrate and continue doing well in future classes?
• Paragraph 2: How did this class either help you or fail to help you achieve your goals? What were the most helpful aspects? What would you suggest or change for the future?
• Paragraph 3: What two student skills do you most need to work on? Discuss a specific plan of action for improving in those areas. What do you plan to do differently next semester to make an improvement?
• Paragraph 4: What two reading and/or writing skills do you most need to work on? Consider the connections you have made throughout the semester between reading well and writing well. Discuss a specific plan of action for improving in those areas. What do you plan to do differently next semester to make an improvement?
3. Each paragraph should be 4-6 sentences long, and each paragraph should be well developed. Each paragraph should have a focused topic sentence, and the additional sentences in the paragraph should support that topic sentence.
4. Be sure to use MLA Style to format this assignment. Apply MLA Style to all aspects of the paper, including the heading, title page, proper paragraph indentation and spacing, font, margins, size, etc. (You are not expected to include a Works Cited page for this assignment.) Need help with MLA?
