To live happy lives, we build a variety of structures to protect ourselves from the wind, rain, oceans, floods, fires, landslides, etc. There are two general types of control structures: erosional and flood. The following table lists some examples of each.

1. Review and select one Erosion control structure and one Flood control structure from the table. For each control structure you chose, respond to the following items:
   1. Describe the control structure and its purpose.
   2. Explain how the landscape is altered over time due to the control structure.
   3. Explain at least one benefit or advantage of using the control structure.
