Introduction
Humans alter the surrounding environment and land, often times in drastic ways. To live happy lives, we build a variety of structures to protect ourselves from the wind, rain, oceans, floods, fires, landslides, etc. There are two general types of control structures: erosional and flood. The following table lists some examples of each.

Discussion Topic
- Review and select one Erosion control structure and one Flood control structure from the table. For each control structure you chose, respond to the following items:
- Describe the control structure and its purpose.
- Explain how the landscape is altered over time due to the control structure.
- Explain at least one benefit or advantage of using the control structure.
- Explain at least one drawback or disadvantage of using the control structure.
- List at least two reliable references you used. Wikipedia and news media shall not be used for this guide
- Each control structure should be at least 200 words in length (400 total).
- The initial response should include at least two citations in APA Style.
- Poor spelling and grammar can affect the overall score by 3 points.
- Missing references can negatively affect the overall score by 4 points.
