- The average reading of one full page of text takes two to three minutes. A three page text will take about seven to 10 minutes to deliver.
- Time your speech when you practice it.
- A longer text is fine. Just don’t speak longer than eight minutes.
- 1 1/2 or double space your text. Use 10 or12 point type.
- Use black ink.
- Use a spell check and grammar check program. The learning center will proof your paper for free.
- The use of poor grammar or sentence construction will impact the overall grade up to 20 points.
- This assignment is the course mid-term project. Take it seriously.
- Ask for help. I am on your side. I want you to earn an A.
Writing the Informative Speech
- Include the following information and structure points in the text.
- At the end of each structure point below is a point value. This is the assignment rubric. The Justification, for example, has (10 pts.) at the conclusion of the definition. This means that if your justification includes the three essential elements then you earned 10 points. Obviously, if your justification is incomplete you will not earn these 10 points. This way, the student will know exactly what grade they are likely to earn before they submit it for a grade.
- Compare your work to these guidelines and the sample informative speech and you should earn a high score. If your work mirrors the sample speech and if your work includes the following structure information then it is very likely that you will earn an A on this assignment.
- The only thing left to do is to submit a well practiced delivery. That’s it!
- Do not include the named structure points that appear in bold below. The bold type is for instruction purposes only.
DO NOT write the RED or the name of the specific structure points on your final text — like Attention Grabber, Topic Statement, justification, etc.
These marks are to help the student to structure the text, only.
