This assignment is meant to help you start preparing for your final project for this class, and can be directly used as a part of your final project. Your final project consists in part of identifying a social problem adolescents face and describing an existing intervention/program/policy. The assignment for this week will focus on identifying an “intervention” to fight whatever social problem you choose.
You can chose any social problem you wish – bullying, violence (in schools or neighborhoods), drug/alcohol use, racism, sexism, involvement in the juvenile justice system, etc. The “intervention” can be broadly construed. For example, if you chose school shootings, the “the intervention” could consist of policy changes to increase gun control. If you chose alcohol use, the “intervention” could consist of an existing school program, a drug abuse class, or addiction counseling. Contact me if you are unsure of what counts as an intervention.
