Health Disparity Topic: Increase the percentage of adults aged 65 years and older who are vaccinated against pneumococcal and influenza disease.
Health Disparities exist among all populations, including across the lifespan. A rise in health disparities among older adults is being seen and factors such as economic status, race, and gender are playing a part.
Influenza and pneumonia are respiratory infectious diseases that impact the lung health of many individuals, but older adults (65+ years of age) are particularly affected. Vaccinations are an effective means of preventing these two types of infectious processes, yet the number of older adults vaccinated continues to fall short of national Healthy People goals. In fact, older adults of racial and ethnic minorities are not receiving vaccinations at the same rate as majority populations.
The first person who posts should kick off the round robin by selecting a social determinant of health (SDOH) to address the health disparity. They will build a strategy based on the SDOH to find a solution for the disparity. Lastly, they will state the expected outcome of the strategy.
Another member of the group should post next and either disagree with the first person’s SDOH, strategy, or outcome and offer an alternative approach, or agree with the first person and contribute input that supports the original idea.
