The dictionary defines creativity as the use of imagination or original ideas, especially in the production of artistic work. 

Wikipedia says creativity is a phenomenon whereby something new and somehow valuable is formed. The created item may be intangible (such as an , a , a , or a ) or a physical object (such as an , a , or a ).

• 1. Above is how the dictionary and Wikipedia define creativity….BUT how would YOU truly define creativity if you were describing it to another person? Be really specific. Pretend you met someone who was from another planet.. How would you actually describe the creativity to them. What kinds of examples would you use to help them understand. What would be the opposite of creativity?
  2. We know artists and musicians are creative, but give an example of another field/ career that uses creativity that people normally do not think is creative and describe why and how this field/ career requires a person to be creative.
  3. Do you feel all individuals have the potential to be creative or only a certain few? Why? Be specific.
  4. Which of the quotes below do you best identify with and why? Copy and paste the quote in your answer….and then be very specific as to your reasons as to why you picked it. What makes it stand out to you or why do you relate to it?

     The strange partnership between a human beings labor and the mystery of inspiration.

     Seeing something that doesnt exist and then making it so.

     The ability to connect the seemingly unconnected and meld existing knowledge into new insight about some element of how the world works. Thats practical creativity. Then theres moral creativity: to apply that skill towards some kind of wisdom on how the world ought to work.

     Just making something. It might be something crummy or awkward or not ready for prime time. If you make something, you are creative.

     Taking whats in front of you and everybody else and making something new out of it.

     Creativity brings good things in the world that otherwise would not exist. Its a noble act of pushing back darkness and giving hope to despair.

     Starting with nothing and ending up with something. Interpreting something you saw or experienced and processing it so it comes out different than how it went in.

     Building universes out of nothing.

     Tapping into your soul and your intuition and allowing them to guide what you make.

     Giving the world something it didnt know it was missing.

     Going to unexpected places.

     Living in possibility and abundance rather than limitation and scarcity.

     To me, creativity is seeing and communicating ideas in ways that are unique, compelling, and unexpected.

      Part 2: What kind of work wows you and why?

     Click on different artists to find artworks and information about them. Or you can use the SEARCH icon at the top right to type in a name of a person, if you have someone specific in mind. This site is continuously growing as new art and artists are added each day. 

     

     Once you find an artwork you really respond to take a screenshot of the image and add it to your assignment.

     DO NOT ADD ANY IMAGES THAT ARE LINKS. YOUR IMAGE MUST SHOW UP IN YOUR ASSIGNMENT. 

     You can also just add it to your word document and submit it that way. Or submit a separate screenshot.

     DO NOT SUBMIT ANY DOCUMENT BESIDES A PDF OR WORD DOC (do not submit a Macintosh pages, or PowerPoint, etc)

     THEN: write about why you chose this artwork and artist. How do you relate to the work? Describe to me what it makes you feel (emotions) or think about (memories, thoughts).  Did you know about this artist before? If so how? 

     Your answer must be at least 6-8 well-worded and complete sentences.
