During this course many concepts, methods, and technologies have been introduced and explored. Has this course changed the way you think about the tools and technologies used to secure an organization’s intellectual property, or how these tools are selected and implemented? Explain your reasoning.

Hello Class,
This course has changed the way a conceptualize tools and technology in the security field. One particular realization that occured to me was the fact that configuring a firewall can greatly aid or diminish the efficacy of a security infrastructure. Admittedly, this was tacitly assumed to be true until exploring the detail given on pfsense, in addition to the many packages that can be install in tandem. Since this software sits at the edge of the network, several devices can be configured and grouped to work together (Packt, 2020). The globalizing aspect of pfsense, along with its rule setting, makes it ideal to scale particular networks for full functionality. Another idea that was learned throughout the course while completing the labs were new ways to troubleshoot errors. I’ve found that checking and re-checking the backend configurations can greatly help the effort to run new softwares smoothly.

Good afternoon everyone,
This course has completely changed the way I look at cybersecurity, especially the technical aspects as well. This is because, while I knew there are many programs and hardware out there, to help combat attackers against a system I never exactly knew what they were and why they were important. Learning that software applications such as PFSense are easy to use, and moreover free to use? That can be a game-changer for those that learn the system inside and out.
I learned that many parts of cybersecurity are done together as a community and that the applications for such are often released free for the public to use, and update as bugs and issues are found as well. This creates a broader sense of community that can change how attacks are perceived and responded to.
