After reading the article “Artificial Intelligence and Its Impact on Cyber Security,” located within the required readings, what do you believe are the implications of “innovation and machine learning and the threat of ‘modification of facts’ to cyber security”?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a controversial topic to a point. Any more people want the automation features that AI will allow, like Alexa and Google assistant. However, there are also people that think it is going to be the downfall of humanity. For example, Stephen Hawking acknowledges that “Success in creating AI could be the biggest event in the history of our civilization.” But he also warns us that it might be the last. Hawking later explains that some of the dangers associated with AI include “powerful autonomous weapons” and tyranny. (Lopez, 2018)

In the late 1980’s my mother got laid off from a big corporation, because she did data entry and they were about to automate it, so they didn’t need her position. This was the first time I though that computers were going to take over and ruin the world. After this I heard of my friend’s parents losing a job at the Ford factory because their position was replaced by a robot. Automation was one of the worst things invented for the work force.

Me personally, I feel that computers as a whole is ruining the world, They are good for a purpose, but if you remember back to the “use-case and abuse-case” they were built for good but then we have the younger crowd that doesn’t even get taught cursive writing any more. We also have the addiction to Cell phones, and the instant gratification provided by them. I feel the worst part is that on-line shopping which has killed many of the small brick and mortar stores. This killed more than the store, it also ended many jobs that relied on those stores. This is just the beginning.

I do think about the plausibility of the movies like “I Robot”, if you are trying to build an AI to think like a human, eventually it will come up with its own reasoning to circumvent any safeguards put into the system. Where I live, here in Florida, they have been conducting test with un-manned public transportation. I feel this would just be another area that people would not be needed and that would just lower the amount of jobs in the world. Eventually there would not be any more jobs, and no one would work anymore then we will end up like the movie “Wall-E” everyone will be fat and lazy.

With the new innovations in technology with objects, building and making innovative things to help out the world. The recent progress in machine learning has some serious impact in the security process as well. Here are the few implications of machine learning as well as artificial intelligence to cyber security:

• Now-a-days we are trying to connect lots of things and beginning to automate the same thing to reduce the human labor. With the help of machine learning, hackers can create bots which can hack into your system any-time. Due to this, authenticated servers can’t distinguish between a human and a bot.

• Lots of changes in ideas and technologies has become very cheap and can be implemented including 3D printing, the IOT and other sensors which provides huge amount of data that machine learning needs. So, there is a chance the cheap sensor can leak huge amount of data.

• Attackers can hack into the things with ease and there will always loopholes present in these technologies as we try to connect huge amount of data and thereby end up losing data as well. Hackers can implement certain malwares in the form of bots to and can delete valuable data from your infrastructure.

• In case of biometric authentication, if any data is being manipulated the user will never get authenticated and instead of that user the bot will manipulate all the data, steal the data or can even delete the data. This is certainly another threat to modification of fact in terms of cyber security.

Organizations face millions of threats each day making is impossible for a security researcher to analyze and categorize them. This task can be done by using Machine Learning in an efficient way.

By finding a way to work towards unsupervised and supervised machine learning will enable us to utilize our current knowledge of threats and vectors fully. Once those are combined with the ability to detect new attacks and discover new vulnerabilities, our systems will be able to protect us from threats is a much better and efficient way. The biggest disadvantage of any AI based system is that we cannot predict what it will do. If fallen into the wrong hands, the result could be fatal, and a whole different level can do more damage than good. A super-intelligent AI will be really good at completing goals, but, if those goals are not aligned with ours, we will have a problem. (Infosec, 2017)
