Now all the tax collectors and sinners were drawing near to him in order to hear him. And both the
Pharisees and scribes were grumbling and were saying, “This one is accepts sinners and eats with
them!” And he spoke to them this parable and said, “What man among you, if he has a hundred
sheep and loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness and seek the lost one
until he finds it? And when he finds it, he places it on his shoulders and rejoices. And when he
comes into his house, he gathers his friends and neighbors and says to them, ‘Rejoice with me,
because I found my lost sheep!’ I say to you, that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in
heaven over one sinful person who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no
repentance.
