While going through the discussion question 2 for this week I stumbled on an article written by Anita Bruzzese, titled “How to explain technical information to non-techies”. It was very insightful with the way she handled the subject matter. She was of the idea that communication plays a vital role when presenting technical stuffs to people that have little of no technical side, and it can also be challenging when the right methods and means are not applied. She went on to list out a few means or ways in conversing technical issues to non tech, which are
1. Try using a “cheat sheet” and don’t assume the non-technical audience have little technology of what is been said.
2. By holding regular meetings are certain intervals like weekly, monthly, quarterly or bi-annually, building up a communication structure within these sessions.
3. Technical issues should also be addressed to meet their (attendees) work needs and should scaled down to “terms they may use in their everyday workday, so they feel more comfortable with the information being presented”.
4. Try to make the communication as simple as possible and try not to intimidate them with highly technical jargons and technologies
5. Engaging them with the simplest possible means like visual presentations, limit the use of technical slides full of charts and graphs and finally
6. Always ask for feedback, with this feedback, you will know the level of their understanding of the subject matter.
Wireshark just like other highly technical findings should presented, ability to communicate should be developed with non-technical audiences. Also focusing on the audience needs, their motivations and responses.

Hello Class,
This question is critical not only to the ongoing alignment between business and IT but the efficacy of communicating importance to other departments. The information shouldn’t remain in its technical form for the CFO, HR, Training and Development, etc. In the instance a threat was discovered, such as a keylogger injection on the webpage, only certain departments may need notification, and much of the technical detail or general info could be omitted (Fruhlinger, 2019). In following with this example, if the keylogger was removed, and it was found through Wireshark that it was active for 4hrs, further mitigation and forensic research may be needed. This approval is largely contingent on the risks associated with no additional research. A statement of the sort would need to be relayed to budgeting or senior leadership: ‘We have resolved the threat but not the vulnerability, meaning that this could happen again tomorrow, if not on a wider scale. Additional funding and resources should be allotted for 2 – 4 weeks of investigation’. The NIST Cybersecurity Framework has also been known to carry the language best suited for business alignment. Many of the technical needs and risks are measured and processed through the 5 steps identify, protect, detect, respond, and recover. Each category translates to a more basic understanding of the impact certain risks have with their particular characteristics.
