Students will write an essay-based report on two major invertebrate pests of an agricultural system of your choice in a region of your choice. The report must follow the guidelines below.
Your assignment should include the following sections:
1. Introduction
A brief introduction outlining the objective of the report, the region and agricultural system in question, and how the report is structured. Include a suitable image (or images) to provide the reader with context for the report and/or site.
2. Invertebrate Pests
a. classification of the pests, including Order, genus and species. Include key identifying characteristics.
b. introduction to the invertebrate and reason it is a pest
c. lifecycle as related to the target crop(s)
d. known pesticides (chemical control agents)
e. known biological control agents
f. known cultural practices used as control agents
g. monitoring methodology
h. known economic injury level / set action threshold.
3. Explore the role of these control measures where possible in the context of conventional, organic, biodynamic, and sustainable farming practices and reflect on environmental issues.
