Situation 1:
Sybil’s mom has been asked to allow Sybil to participate in a research study on blended families and she agrees. Sybil is a 7-year-old child who wears glasses and is somewhat overweight. When Sybil is brought to the interview session and is asked a question about her stepsisters, she starts to cry and refuses to talk.
