This unit has introduced you to the concept of an Information System. By now, I hope you see that Information Systems are everywhere! There is little chance that you will find a job where you will NOT interact with an Information System. So, it is great that you are taking this class to learn about this critical application of technology!
In this activity, imagine that you are shopping with a friend. You have just completed Unit 1 of your course and are so excited about what you have learned! (Hopefully, you don’t have to imagine the excitement part!) One of the stores you visit is a local store that only accepts cash. The other is, of course, Wal-Mart. Watch the videos below about how Wal-Mart uses Information Systems and discuss with your friend about Wal-Mart and how they used Information Systems to support the growth of their organization from a local “mom-and-pop” store to the global superpower that it is today.
Write a one to two-page double spaced paper indicating what you said to your friend about how Information Systems have helped Wal-Mart grow and how you think the smaller store could benefit from Information Systems. Give at least three examples of each. Compose this assignment in Microsoft Word and upload it as an attachment to the dropbox folder.
