This assignment's purpose is twofold: 1) to compare the U.S. political system with that of another country and 2) to learn about the broader culture of another country. New knowledge about a different political and social system helps broaden one's worldview and furthers intercultural skills development. We often learn much from comparing. You will learn more about the U.S. political and social system by comparing it to another. 

In this paper, you will compare the United States and the Netherlands. The first half of the paper should focus on the political similarities and differences between the two countries, with special emphasis on the legislative branches. You can begin by exploring the website for the House of Representatives of the Netherlands, https://www.houseofrepresentatives.nl/ (Links to an external site.), the Dutch Parliament, also called the States General. Also explore the website for the U.S. House of Representatives, www.house.gov (Links to an external site.). This part of the paper should be the first one and a half to two pages. You can include other political differences between the two countries as well. 

The next part of the paper (which should also be approximately one and a half to two pages) will focus on Dutch culture in broader terms. You have more flexibility here to explore the country and its cities and people.
