The English novelist George Eliot said, “Animals are such agreeable friends, they ask no questions, they pass no criticisms.” History supports it, showing that for over 12,000 years, humans have been keeping dogs and other animals as pets. Humans throughout the years have had great reasons for doing so. Because dogs and other animals have been around for12,000 years, and they are naturally attracted to us. Us humans have had no choice but to interact with them. After interacting with them we then can see how these animals are very beneficial to our people and our communities.

One of the most average animals that are taken as pets are dogs. Dogs are special because compared to many different animals, they are very different personality wise. For example, that out of many other animals’ dogs create bonds with humas the best. Dogs are all around the world, and around 70 million households in the U.S. have a pet dog. “vethelpdirect.com” says that “Unlike wolves and other wild animals, dogs are naturally attracted to humans. Experiments conducted by Brian Hare showed that domestication causes animals to have a distinct interest in what we’re doing, and what we’re trying to say. “Dogs naturally create good bonds with us due to their need to be close with us. “theguardian.com” describes how, “Most dogs actively choose proximity to humans and, within a few months of being born, a puppy’s attraction is clearly toward people rather than other dogs.” Even when dogs are still young, they are naturally attached to humans, and understand humans great and can even understand hand gestures.

With all the positive benefits that dogs bring to humans, they were quickly made into pets. These benefits help not only adults, but children as well. Even when spending a small amount of time next to a dog it can bring benefits, it can bring your mood up like happiness, slow your heartrate, or relieve stress. The CDC states that, “Dogs can have many positive effects on the lives of their owners. They influence social, emotional, and cognitive development in children, promote an active lifestyle, provide companionship, and have been able to detect oncoming epileptic seizures or the presence of certain cancers.” Dogs not only help us mentally, but they also help us physically. Some dogs help us to walk if we are blind, some help us to move if we can’t on our own. “akc.org” talks about how, “Multiple studies that dogs and therapy dogs help alleviate stress and anxiety. Even just petting a familiar dog lowers blood pressure, heart rate, slows breathing, and relaxes muscle tension.” Dogs are great pets for anybody who needs even just a little bit of help.
